Marian Foundation Members Receiving Foundation of the Year 2024 Award

Marian Foundation named CommonSpirit’s Foundation of the Year

Marian Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce that the Marian Foundation was recently honored with CommonSpirit Health’s Foundation of the Year Award. CommonSpirit Health’s coveted Foundation of the Year Award celebrates one fundraising foundation across CommonSpirit’s more than 80 fundraising entities.

The Foundation of the Year Award honor is bestowed to the top-performing CommonSpirit Health foundation that excels across major gifts, grants, and planned gifts.

The Legion of Marian Spring Presentation

Legion of Marian Spring Celebration 2024The Legion of Marian’s spring presentation was held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the home of Lisa and Jim Wesner, with more than 65 people in attendance. The recent Legion of Marian presentation focused on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Marian Regional Medical Center, and Rocky Greer, MD, Department Chair of Pediatric Medicine, led the presentation.


Mission Hope Cancer Center radiation oncology blanket warmer

Blanket warmer for the Mission Hope Cancer CenterThe Marian Foundation is pleased to announce that the fundraising organization funded the acquisition of a blanket warmer for our radiation oncology patients at Mission Hope Cancer Center.
“The new blanket warmer in the radiation oncology department came at the perfect time,” shared J. Ben Wilkinson, MD, FACRO, Radiation Oncologist. “Even though we are inside, the chill temperatures of the season find their way to our patients. Now, with the ability to offer warm blankets to patients, we’ve seen firsthand the comfort and relief it brings to those receiving radiation treatments. It’s been a terrific blessing.”


Day of Hope Ambassador hosts fundraiser for Mission Hope Cancer Center

Fundraiser for Day of Hope Ambassador - for the cancer centerThis spring, Day of Hope 2024 Ambassador Eileen Hongo kicked off her team’s Day of Hope fundraising efforts by partnering with Old Town Wine & Brew in Orcutt to host a special event. A portion of proceeds from the event benefited Mission Hope Cancer Center in support of this year’s Day of Hope event. Eileen was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma in April 2023. She has since proudly completed chemotherapy treatment and has started her radiation therapy journey. Eileen is honored to serve as the Day of Hope 2024 Ambassador.


Family Medicine and OB/GYN Residency Match Day

Family Medicine and OB/GYN Residency Match DayThe Marian Family Medicine Residency Program and the OB/GYN Residency Program held their “Match Day” celebrations on March 15, a day when the National Residency Matching Program matches up prospective medical students with medical residency and fellowship training programs. Marian’s Family Medicine Residency Program had 428 applicants, 68 of whom visited for interviews, and six were matched into the program. The OB/GYN Residency Program had 402 applicants, 71 were interviewed and three were matched into the program.


Patty Hernandez donates her birthday to the NICU

Patty HernandezRecently celebrating her 50th birthday, Patty Hernandez, an LVN at Marian Regional Medical Center, participated in Marian’s Donate Your Birthday Program, where she raised a generous donation of over $1,000 to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She says she already feels grateful to work in such an impactful unit at Marian, and celebrating her birthday by donating to the NICU “was the best thing I could’ve done.” She says she feels so fortunate to back to the department she deeply cherishes.
