Furthering Health Care Together: Marian Regional Medical Center & Allan Hancock College

Appeal Banner

The long-time partnership between Marian Regional Medical Center and Allan Hancock College was celebrated in November. Due to nearly three decades of financial support to the college's nursing program, the Health, Science, and Mathematics building was re-dedicated in honor of Marian.

At the building naming celebration, Marian and Hancock leadership were on hand, as were Hancock nursing faculty, former faculty, staff, students, and alumni. This flourishing partnership has produced many new nurses on the Central Coast, including Marian's Emergency Services Assistant Nurse Manager, Pam Brown, RN. Pam (pictured above, far right) spoke to her experience as both a student of Hancock and as a nurse in Marian's Emergency Department. Thanks to the growth of this program, Santa Maria residents are able to pursue medical careers on the Central Coast, and Marian has been able to recruit and retain highly qualified nursing employees.

The Moca Foundation's Generous Grant

We are pleased to announce that the Moca Foundation recently awarded a $30,000 grant in support of Marian Cancer Care's genetic counseling and testing program at Mission Hope Cancer Center.

A genetic counselor works as part of the health care team and provides information for possible risks of a patient's genetic disorder. Through this grant, approximately 120 patients will receive financial assistance through Marian Cancer Care for this service.

Thanks to the generosity of the Moca Foundation, patients will be empowered to receive personalized health care with the best possible outcome.

Letting Philanthropy Grow Naturally

You might have noticed 67 officers of the Santa Maria Police Department (SMPD) were a little hairier in the month of November. SMPD participated in “No-Shave-November” to raise funds for cancer care by donating $50 per participant. Their mustaches, beards, goatees, and muttonchops collectively raised $7,100. This gift comes on the heels of their raising $10,000 in the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Acting Sergeant Herminio Rodriguez, Commander Marc Schneider, and Sergeant Daniel Rios (above) presented this meaningful gift on behalf of SMPD for local cancer patients.

We thank you from our whole hearts (not just the bottom).

At Marian, we are proud of our many team members who go above and beyond to provide compassionate care to our patients. These are our Guardian Angels, those who are recognized by patients for delivering humankindness during their hour of need by making a gift in their name.

Richard Wikholm, MD, and Alex Foley (right) were recently honored for their heartfelt care by a donor. Thank you for being their Guardian Angels!

Danny Deveraux and Betsy Lamb were on hand at a plaque unveiling for CalPortland's support of the Emergency Services Expansion Project. We are grateful for their support of this needed project.

On September 29, Sunny Country 102.5 presented Concert for Hope. Bringing the award-winning singer/songwriters Anna Wilson and Monty Powell, and upcoming artist Cash Campbell to Presqu’ile Winery, this fundraiser brought $5,860 for patients at Mission Hope Cancer Center.
