Delivering Hope!

2018 Day of Hope Team

For the fifth straight year, the generosity and kindness of the Central Coast was on display across two counties, as local community members once again chose to stand with local cancer patients and their families in need. As of today, more than $208,000 has been raised for this year’s Day of Hope, with more donations coming in!

Day of Hope’s record-setting event involved more than 650 community members with one goal: to sell $1 Day of Hope Santa Maria Times, Santa Ynez Valley News, and Lompoc Record newspapers in support of local cancer patients. One hundred percent of all Day of Hope proceeds stay in the community, benefiting Central Coast cancer patients and families in need at Mission Hope Cancer Center.

Legacy Society members honored at luncheon

Legacy Society Header

On March 27, 2018, we celebrated the special members of our community who have chosen to provide a lasting legacy at Marian.  Members of the Marian Legacy Society were honored at the Santa Maria Country Club where attendees heard patient and physician testimonials on the importance of the lifesaving work at Marian.

The Marian Legacy Society is comprised of those in our community who have provided for Marian Regional Medical Center in their estate plans through gifts that include wills, trusts, insurance policies, individual retirement accounts, real estate, charitable trusts, or gift annuities.

With deep gratitude, we honor their friendship and partnership by gathering on this occasion to see how their investment has and will transform health care throughout the Santa Maria Valley for many years to come.

Make a Gift That Lasts: Charitable Remainder Trusts

Legacy Society Header

A charitable remainder trust (CRT) is an IRS approved giving vehicle that provides charitably-minded people an opportunity to make a significant gift to an organization like Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation while receiving a number of personal financial benefits including lifetime income.

Here’s how a CRT works: once the trust is executed, highly appreciated property (stocks, land, rental property, etc.) is donated to the CRT. Since the CRT is a tax -exempt vehicle, there is no capital gains tax on the sale of the property. In addition to avoiding the capital gains tax on the sale, the donor receives a very significant and immediate charitable income-tax deduction. Once the property is sold by the trust, the proceeds are then invested in an account that pays the donor (and possibly others) income for life or for a period of years.

Please contact the foundation for additional information to see how you and your family can benefit from this type of charitable gift by calling 805.739.3595.
