Surgical Services Expansion Project Update

Marian Regional Medical Center's certification as a Level II Trauma Center highlighted the need to expand and upgrade its operating rooms to handle the increase in complex cases and specialized trauma surgeries.

In response, and thanks in part to generous donors throughout the Central Coast, the hospital was able to expand four operating room suites, add a second Da Vinci Surgical Robot, and update surgical components throughout the spaces, including new high-definition lighting.

Education Opportunities

The second robotic surgical system at Marian enhanced our hospital's efficiency and continues to provide important, hands-on training for future surgeons. This ensures our pipeline of high-quality specialists remains strong.

Hybrid Procedures

The hospital's expanded operating rooms and updated surgical equipment enables multiple specialists to operate on patients with complex health conditions at the same time, reducing operating time, minimizing trauma, and improving recovery.

Cardiology Treatment

Updated operating rooms and advanced surgical equipment have significantly improved cardiac and vascular procedure offerings at Marian, increasing treatment options. The hospital now ranks in the top 10% nationwide for quality cardiac care. To learn more, visit our Cath Lab Update.

Surgeon Addition

Among the recently recruited specialty physicians at Marian is the hospital's first-ever colorectal surgeon. Trained to diagnose and treat problems in the colon, rectum, anus, and other parts of the digestive system, Dr. Joel Dean is an expert in handling complicated colorectal cases. He’s also highly trained in using advanced robotic technology to perform these surgeries, which helps make procedures more precise and easier for patients to recover from.
